Updated version for 3 PCI slot GPUs: GPU_3_slot_stand_the_internal.stl.
If you have a GPU that doesn't occupy three PCI brackets (most probably >90% of you), choose the version for 2 PCI slot GPUs: GPU_2_slot_stand_the_internal.stl!

[The "GPU_stand.stl" is slightly outdated but remains here for historical reasons - if you want to print this thing for practical use, use the updated versions.]

A little explanation on why I try to enforce the license on this item instead of "letting it go":

The internet is full of digital items, that can be downloaded and used for free. I like that! In fact, I have released many things for free on the internet and/or used publicly released stuff myself. This design is FREE for all the use cases, where you want to print it for yourself, print one for your father in law, your neighbour or your work mate. It is free as long as you do not charge for more than it cost you to print this, i.e. as long as you don't print the design for profit. Which I understand to be pretty self explanatory according to the license: https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc/4.0/

You can print a thousand of these stands for your work mates, if you charge them no more than what the filament and energy cost you yourself - commercial license free!

The instance you feel like "I can sell these AND make a profit." is where you have to obtain a commercial license from me. I believe this to be pretty fair. And at a 5% retail price licensing fee I'm in the ballpark of all the multi billion corporations who charge you all kinds of fees you mostly don't even care about.

Are you really arguing with me about my licensing quote of 5%, while you pay PayPal 2,5%, eBay, Amazon another 5% in hidden fees, etc.

This world is so f'ckd up sometimes, where a small creator is labeled GREEDY for trying to make the slightest profit for some of his creative skills, while it's universally accepted that MULTI BILLION COMPANIES "deserve" their fees without a doubt simply for being there and having established a system.

As of now (01/06/2021) I have earned a whopping ~10USD from this design. Most probably less than all of the payment processing providers involved in this have made by doing exactly what?

You run a 3D printing business or are about to start one? You like this design, have received requests for it and/or want to sell your prints? No problem, contact me, lowcost commercial licenses are available.

Update 2021/05/11:

Two sellers (both based in the UK) have each obtained a commercial license to sell 3D printed stands based on my design (thank you guys!!!). So if you're based in the UK and would like one of these stands and are unsure whether your printer is up to the task (or simply don't own one), you can most probably rely on these two:

Update 2021/04/18:

Oddly enough, this "unfinished project" has become one of my most successful designs - so I guess: THX for that!

I still haven't managed to upload pictures of the actually finished printed item: sorry for that! (I'll try to upload some in the next few days.)

I noticed some "re-designs" promise to help with print time or better printability; well, print time is mostly up to you: use 0.3 layers instead of 0.2, fewer outer shells, modify the infill, etc. If your printer can't handle proper bridging, refine your setup because it absolutely should! Don't go for designs, that promise "better bridiging". The beams at the bottom serve a purpose (to support the card evenly). Reducing those to one central beam is not recommended!

Don't buy any retail 3D prints of this design, as those are not allowed according to the license. I've had requests for licenses, but none of those interested in obtaining one followed through (for the record: you can license the design for 5% of the retail price). You can of course download the design, print it for yourself or an unlimited number of friends as long as you don't charge them any more than what the printing process cost you in material, energy and equipment wear.

No one has obtained a valid license to print this design for profit as of this date (2021/04/18)! If you come across someone infringing on this, please let me know. Thx!

Original summary:

My take on an external GPU stand for display or mining purposes. Inspired by b1sh0p's GPU Mining Rig design, but built entirely from scratch in Fusion 360 for any PCIe GPU and PCIe 1X to 16X risers that come with a padded bottom PCB.

The GPU can be fixed to the stand with a 4mm tapping screw at the top while the riser PCB is supported at the bottom by the stand's bottom support beams. I have included a printable pin that should hold the GPU in place, in case you don't want to or can't use a screw (untested).

The included pictures show a pre release version that didn't have supports for the riser PCB and was a tiny bit higher but worked flawlessly nonetheless. However I wasn't quite satisfied with the fact that the GPU/riser was howering 4mm above the bottom printed parts and opted for a redesign that allows for additional support in that area too.

I didn't have time to take pictures of the design I'm publishing now but I'll try to upload them as soon as possible.

Please let me know about your experiences in the comments and share your makes!

Thank you!
