VERSION 2 UPDATE:

  • Better wire routing (V1 had too tight of bend radii for the phone and Airpods charging cords)
  • Deeper wire channels to ensure wires completely recess inside of the base
  • Larger USB slot for the watch charger to make it easier to route the connector through the dock

With the switch to at-home learning, my improvised desk at home is often a mess of gadgets and miscellaneous writing utensils. This can often be distracting, so I needed a way to keep them all organized in one place. This design was inspired by the "Trio Dock - Charging dock for iPhone X/Xs, Apple Watch and AirPods" by "tomasf" and other similar models. However, while this dock is also designed to hold an iPhone, AirPods, and Apple Watch, it can also hold many of your office supplies all in one convenient location. This should help free up some desk space and keep everything quick and easy to access, letting you focus on doing your work rather than searching that pencil you keep misplacing.

About this project:
This dock was created as part of a Mechanical Engineering class at the University of Hawaii at Manoa.

Some issues encountered in this project:

  • Some edges could not be filleted due to mismatching curved surfaces. These areas had to be rebuilt in SolidWorks to enable filleting. The current version has these fixes to enable fillets to work throughout

Future Modifications:

  • The USB cutout at the bottom of the watch's wireless charger receptacle may be a tight fit for USB Type-A connectors to fit through. This might need widening after performing a test fit.
  • iPhone stand may block the speakers located at the bottom of the phone. This could be mitigated with a narrower base, which could allow for better speaker output.
  • Redesign the pencil cup to have a shallower region for shorter writing utensils or office supplies.

How 3D printing will help strengthen this design:

  • 3D printing will enable many people to have access to this design.
  • This is much cheaper to attain than its injection-molded or machined manufactured counterparts.
