Description
I do enjoy making 3D models that actually DO something instead of just looking nice. A weight operated pendulum clock is certainly one of my favorites. This model, one of my newer designs, not only DOES something (it keeps time) but also looks good.
Most of the clock is 3D printed, but a few items still need to be purchased (I've not been able to print screws, bearings, nylon cord, or lead shot). Links to examples of each are included in the (very detailed) assembly instructions (PDF document).
The clock is 346mm (14in) wide and 1.3m (50in) tall (with the weights and pendulum) and has a run time between windings of about 36 hours.
All the parts were printed in PLA.
The maximum bed size needed is 188mm x 180mm.
UPDATE 01/10/26: The tooth counts for gears and pinions 6 and 7 were reversed in the text file 'Gear Train Timings.txt', The error has been fixed in the new file. This has no effect on the model.
UPDATE and CORRECTION 01/11/26: The model for the clock face (Clock_Face.STL) did not include the raised numerals that allow for two color printing. A new update model (Clock_Face_with_Numerals.STL) has been added and the assembly instructions updated.
UPDATE and CORRECTION 01/13/26: The models in the file Pendulum_Sections_x5.STL have been fixed so that the Pendulum Connectors will fit either end of the sections (one end of the pendulum section models in the previous upload was not the correct size).
UPDATE 02/23/26: Added a zip file ('Parts Modified for 624 Bearing.zip') containing parts that have been modified to use 624 bearings (4mm ID, 13mm OD, 5mm thick) instead of the 686 bearings. Note that none of these replacement parts have been tested. Use of these modified parts in place of the corresponding original parts is purely optional.
