I found several knob modifications that were something like this, then I also found some spring cups for maintaining the position of the springs better.
This modification is a sort of combination of the 2 ideas, giving you locking knobs that also keep the springs positioned well. All pieces slip pretty easily into place over the stock knobs that come with the latest Ender 3.
The knobs make a satisfying clicking sound as you adjust them, with teeth positioned every 12 degrees, so you could figure out exactly how much each click raises or lowers the bed if you wanted to.
Printing orientation:
-Generally, it is best to print these parts with the teeth facing upwards.
-However, for the part that slides over the plate, you may want to rotate it so the teeth face sideways to minimize support.
** Note: there is a unique piece on the corner where the bed wire guide mounts.
I've added a mashup of the lockingPlate with a bed wire "strain relief" bent 90 degrees downward from the standard configuration.
****EXTRA NOTE: I finally printed and tested the new bed wire "strain relief", primarily realizing that my last uploaded version was wrong. The 2 parts of the assembly were oriented incorrectly before, so I corrected that and uploaded some pictures of how the correct version fits.
Credit to FourDogs "bed wire strain relief" model for being the basis of my bent, knob locking version: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2958812
I included Fourdogs' lid, but I'm not sure that it is useful for this configuration. I only found it necessary to secure the wires using a ziptie.
From the pictures, you can see that the wires protrude about 1 inch less than with the stock strain relief. This allows for a smaller overall footprint of the printer when it moves to the Y extremes, making it fit perfectly within my enclosure... https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4111022
