Pullout Spice Rack
I wanted a better way to organize the spices in a cabinet but having it occupy a limited amount of space. I designed this pullout spice rack to allow for one or more pull out shelves for spices. The rack pulls out and rotates 90 degrees in either direction to access your spices. There are two shelves on the rack which allow for the short spice containers on the top and larger round or square bottles on the bottom.
You could obviously put as many of the racks next to each other--making sure you have room to rotate it after you pull it out--but I've created three different sets of bottom rails and end-caps so you can create a single, double, or triple configuration.
NOTE: I did remix the design for one with less printed material: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4826878
I think this version also looks a lot more contemporary.
* Modification of Pin Alignment to Allow Stacking
I did a second revision of the design that aligns all the pins for the shelves and cap so that you can stack 0,1, .. N small shelves and then place the cap.
IMPORTANT: Make sure you use the same (bottom, top, cap) wither with the filename of '-align.stl' or without the 'align'.
The STL file names with "drawer" are for the modification below to use metal drawer slides.
Hardware parts
- Small flat head screws to fasten bottom rail and end-cap to cabinet.
- 2 fender washers - 3/16 in. x 1 in.
- Book binding post (15mm size) or equivalent.
* Modification Using Drawer Slides
I'm printing on a Prusa MK3s with a 0.4mm nozzle. For some users, the rails fit fine and don't require a lot of sanding or adjusting. But some of you have mentioned difficulties. If you are having problems with the rails, this modification allows you to used metal drawer slides.
For using drawer slides, print the "drawer" parts (bottom shelf, pin, and track). Because the bottom shelf is slotted to slide out far enough, a pin is placed in the shelf to keep it from rotating around and being slid back in the wrong direction.
Hardware parts
- 8" drawer slides: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07LCBCVWP/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00
- 8/32 low head screw and nut (I had to cut the screw to an approximate length of 6mms).
